What we do with what you tell us

Draft, to be checked by a solicitor before launch. This is the plain-English version the product is built around. Anything marked [__] is not yet known.

You’re telling us about someone you love, and about your family. Here is exactly what happens to that.

What we keep

• Your answers, typed or spoken, and the eulogy written from them.
• Your email address, if you give it, and the funeral date, if you give it.
• If you pay: a record that you paid. Your card details never reach us; they go straight to our payment provider.

What we use it for

• Writing your eulogy, and the changes you ask for. That’s all.
• Sending your private link and your receipt. Reminders only if you tick the box. Two reminders at most, and one note the day before the funeral if you asked for it. None after the funeral. One tap stops them.
• We don’t send newsletters, sell or share your details, or use what you tell us to train AI.

When you speak your answers

Speech is turned into text by your own browser’s speech service (Google’s in Chrome, Apple’s in Safari). We receive the words, not the recording. If you’d rather that didn’t happen, type instead.

Who else handles it

The eulogy is drafted by an AI model run by our provider under a contract that forbids using your text for training. Our hosting, email and payment providers process data for us in the UK or EU. [__ list of providers and locations]

When your family adds a memory

If you ask someone for a memory, we email them once, and once more only if you send a reminder, because you asked us to. We don’t email them about anything else. Their address, and anything they write, is deleted with your eulogy. Only you see what they write, and you decide whether it goes into the eulogy.

How long we keep it

Everything you’ve told us, and the eulogy, is deleted 30 days after your last visit, or 30 days after the funeral date you gave us if that is later. You can delete everything sooner from your private link, or by emailing us, and we’ll confirm when it’s done. It is removed from our systems straight away, and from our backups within 35 days. We cannot restore it for you.

Your private link

The link in our emails opens your eulogy straight away on a device where you’ve already signed in. On any other device we email you a six-digit code first, so a forwarded link on its own opens nothing. To let someone else read it, print it or send them a copy.

If you came from an advert

We never put Google’s code, or anyone else’s, on this site, and we never send your name, your email or anything you tell us to an advertiser. If you arrived by clicking one of our adverts we ask one question, below. Only if you say yes do we keep that click’s reference and, if you later buy, tell Google that the advert led to a sale of that price. If you say nothing, the answer is no.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, at any time: hello@sayafewwords.co.uk. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
